Getting Published Guide

Publishing Guide

So you’ve written a book? Well done! Most people never get that far.

But what now? If you were thinking of just printing it out and sending the manuscript to a publisher, you may need a better plan. You're probably asking yourself:But what now? If you were thinking of just printing it out and sending the manuscript to a publisher, you may need a better plan. You're probably asking yourself:

  • How do I even find publishers?
  • What about literary agents? What do they do and are they worth the cost?
  • Which agent or publisher should I send my book to?
  • Do I need to pay a publisher to get published? (Hint: No!)
  • Should I self-publish? How do I do that without wasting money?
  • How can I get my book into print without waiting for years?

Sending a manuscript into the void probably isn’t the best method anymore. You need a modern roadmap, and that's exactly what this guide provides.

A Free, Illustrated Guide to Getting Published

My name is John Chapman, and I can help. Back in 2012, I gave myself a challenge: to write and publish a book in both print and ebook format in just one week. I succeeded, and the process taught me everything about navigating the modern publishing world.

That experience became the book, "An Illustrated Guide to Getting Published." But publishing has changed again, so I've created this new, completely free online version that I can update constantly.

This guide is for you if:
  • You don’t have a fortune to spend on getting published.
  • You want to see your book in print within the next couple of years.
  • You want to make money from your book, not lose it.
  • You have no idea how to market or promote a book.
  • You think you can handle tasks like editing and cover design, but need guidance.
So, what's the catch? Why is it free?

This website is a passion project, but it does have costs. To support it, you'll find some adverts and affiliate links (mainly to Amazon). Some are for my own books, and others are for products and services I personally use and recommend. You can ignore them completely, but if you find this guide useful, using a link or downloading one of my ebooks (some are free) is a great way to say thanks!

If you find this guide useful...

Can you help me out?

If you find these pages useful you can return the favour by downloading a FREE ebook from Amazon - even if you don't read it, it will help our rankings! I think you'll probably like it though.

It's the first book of a series of 9 books (so far) which tell the story of how life on Earth was saved from a cataclysmic extinction when a rogue planetoid collides with Earth in 7141. This first book deals with how humanity was made immortal, giving us the incentive to do something about an event so far in the future.

Take a touch of humour, add some genetic science and nanotechnology. Steep with conspiracy and stir in murder and despair. Season with romance between three people in a secret location. Garnish with morality.

The result is 'Immortality Gene', the first in a novel series by John and Shelia Chapman. The ebook of book 1 is FREE  at multiple retailers but if you find they want to charge you 99¢/77p then buy the 3 ebook collection for just a penny more.
